Pokemon GO: Wild Area 2026 Backgrounds, Avatar Items & More
Trainer profile backgrounds, private Dynamax Battles, a branched Special Research and new avatar items are coming to Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026.

The Pokémon GO team has shared a batch of new details for Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026 in a post dated November 3, 2026. It covers Trainer profile backgrounds, private Dynamax Battles, a branched Special Research story and a first look at the new avatar items.
If you plan to play the real-world events in Sendai and Mexico City or the global event, these are the dates and bonuses to know. Below we go over each update, using the official announcement.
New Features for GO Wild Area
- Profile backgrounds: you and your friends can now see your buddy Pokémon's Location Background or Special Background on your Trainer profile. The Location Backgrounds for Sendai and Mexico City can be displayed from November 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The GO Wild Area 2026 Special Background and all earlier Location Backgrounds follow on November 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Friends will not see your background until 10:00 a.m. in their own local time, and more Special Backgrounds will come later.
- Private Dynamax Battles: in the lobby you can now choose Battle to be matched automatically with other players, or Private Group to join an existing group with a group code.
- Adventure Effects in lobbies: starting with the Into the Wild event, you can activate select Adventure Effects while in the lobby for a raid or Max Battle, such as Zacian's Behemoth Blade or Zamazenta's Behemoth Bash. Ticket holders in Sendai and Mexico City get early access.
- Pokémon HOME: Pokémon caught in GO Safari Balls can now be sent to Pokémon HOME, where the ball shows as a Strange Ball.
Special Research, Avatar Items and Event Dates
During Pokémon GO Wild Area: Global, ticket-holding Trainers can follow a branched Special Research story that starts on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. You pick between Steel and Dragon, and the path decides your bonuses.
- Steel Scholar: after you earn the medal, you get 1 additional Candy XL (Trainers level 31+) and an additional 1,000 Stardust for catching Steel-type mighty Pokémon.
- Dragon Defender: the same bonuses apply to Dragon-type mighty Pokémon.
These bonuses expire at the end of the global event on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. local time. Ticket holders at the Sendai and Mexico City events can collect both badges, and their bonuses last until the end of the global event. Completing the event Special Research also unlocks a new avatar pose.
For avatar items, the free GO Pass: Into the Wild gives every Trainer the GO Wild Area 2026 Tee (Purple), while GO Pass Deluxe unlocks the Duraludon Pants as you progress. Both passes run from Monday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. local time, and you can claim rewards until Tuesday, November 17, at 11:59 p.m. local time. The Duraludon Helmet, Gigantamax Duraludon Backpack and Fighting-Type Jacket go on sale in the in-game shop and stay available after the event.
Ticket add-ons are active from Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, 2026. The team also notes that upcoming events are subject to change.
