Etheria: Restart is but a few weeks away from launching, and with all of the hype being generated about the game from various social media outlets, streamers, and YouTube creators, we’re practically seeing the game everywhere. The game is certainly stunning, and from what we have seen, its character designs are nothing short of amazing. However, there is something that most players have been wondering, and that is whether the game is open world and how it matches up to Honkai: Star Rail, another turn-based gacha game.
Is Etheria: Restart Open World?

The quick answer to that is NO, Etheria: Restart is not an open-world game. The game is divided into various chapters, each of which has its own map with various encounters and chests to collect, all of which give rewards to the player upon completion. However, it does not have an open world to explore, similar to how it is in Genshin Impact, or even a semi-open world, similar to how it is in Honkai: Star Rail.
While the world in Honkai: Star Rail is certainly more interactive than what it is in Etheria: Restart, it can also be way more distracting, so it might not be everyone’s preferred way of playing a turn-based game. Etheria: Restart makes the most of its instance-based system by chaining together stages so that they don’t feel tedious and making the whole chapter feel way more connected than it actually is. This decision makes the game feel more open despite the stages themselves not being that huge. This instance-based system is also a welcome design choice for those who don’t actually have the time to roam around a huge map just to look for a chest that will get them one step closer to making another pull for a new unit.

Will There Be an Open World in Etheria: Restart?

While the possibility of an open world being present in the game sometime in the future is not out of the question, there is currently no confirmation on that from the developers. Other instance-based games, such as Honkai Impact 3rd and Alchemy Stars, have done a good job at implementing open worlds into their originally instance-based games, and it has proven to be somewhat successful. However, we cannot deny the fact that this sort of system would take a lot of resources, and we cannot say whether the developers would be willing to invest them into an open-world system rather than in new characters.
In short, whether the game will have an open world in the future or not is still unknown, but the chances aren’t zero, so with enough feedback, who knows, we might just get an open-world zone in Etheria: Restart.
