Stalker 2 has a new update called The Zone Lookout, announced on Steam on October 26, 2026. The developers describe it as their first major update after the "Archmajor" 2.0 patch: most of the annoying anomalies are fixed, and there is something new for the stalker's daily life too.

The update adds a fast travel system, a longer A-Life NPC view distance and a very long list of fixes for NPCs, quests and PS5 saves. We will go over every major change, from the new features to the smaller bug fixes.

Stalker 2 The Zone Lookout Highlights

  • A-Life visualisation distance: there is a new option to increase how far away A-Life NPCs are shown.
  • Binoculars: their functionality was updated to support the new streaming distances, and their identification range grows when you use the increased A-Life streaming distance setting.
  • Fast travel: a new system lets you fast travel with squad leaders.
  • Anomalies: they work better with the new systems, including streaming distance, dead body interactions and visual improvements for the CNPP arch-anomaly.

NPC Behavior and Combat Changes

The team fixed a long run of problems with NPCs and mutants:

  • Massive NPCs or mutants no longer spawn at Rostok, and mercenary NPCs no longer spawn in excess at Duga.
  • Armed NPCs no longer aim in unintended directions, and NPCs no longer carry levitating weapons behind their backs.
  • NPCs no longer get stuck while looting a corpse or inside campfires, and A-Life NPCs and mutants no longer get stuck mid-air.
  • NPCs now react differently to your melee attacks, and NPCs that were not attacking unless you looked straight at them are fixed.
  • The Amok Run attack no longer fails to trigger when it starts out of line of sight.
  • A-Life NPCs now stop moving during a dialogue.
  • The internal height of some covers was increased, which should improve behavior around small covers.
  • The audible range of gunfights now follows the streaming distance setting, and indoor gunfire no longer sounds like it is outdoors.

Quest and Open World Fixes

Many quests that could not be started now work, including The destructive power of the mind, The road to the center of the storm, Shadows of the past, To the origins of Freedom, Territorial war, Distant Mirage and In the heart of the Iron Forest. The starting missions of the DLC could not be started either, and that is fixed too.

Other changes to the story content:

  • Mediator: the final reward changed, and the ambush logic was fixed.
  • Fair Deal: a quest logic exploit that let you reach a room before Cleaver spawned there is closed, and you can now trade with Chief after finishing the mission.
  • Zulu boss fight: climbing on the computers is no longer possible, and collision issues in the arena are fixed.
  • Chemical Plant: the logic of the gates access changed after the Signal.
  • Level art: the team improved level art and design in X-16 lab, the Generators, Cooling Tower, CNPP and Malachite regions, and several missions, including To the origins of Freedom and Gunpowder, sweat, and blood.

If you are working through the story, our walkthroughs for Chasing Ghosts and Deal With The Devil cover two missions that received fixes.

PS5 Fixes

The patch fixes many cases of missing characters and quest items on PS5, including the NPCs missing after the update to the 2.0 patch. Examples include Varan in Deal With The Devil, Squint in A Needle In A Haystack, Sava in Hot On The Trail, Doctor Kaimanov in An Act Of Mercy and Star in Dawn Of A New Day. Several dead bodies carrying quest items or keys, such as the one in Chasing Ghosts, are no longer missing.

Bug Fixes and Performance

  • Scopes: the scope mark at Margach D-12MT with FSR FrameGen is fixed, and several scopes no longer have blurry textures when aiming down sights.
  • Performance: drops are fixed in To the origins of Freedom at the Perimeter Dam, in Dangerous way at the Underpass Exit, and a memory leak from many map markers is gone.
  • Bodies: dead bodies no longer get stuck in the air, change positions after loading a save or spawn in front of your eyes.
  • Map: tooltips for unexplored locations no longer appear, and you can no longer leave the map during Wishful Thinking.
  • Stats: tracking for the longest kill distance statistic is fixed, and Zone's deadliest predator no longer requires killing all mutants in one session.
  • Visuals: hair issues for Richter, Agatha, Mavka and the Doctor, foggy day weather that was too bright, freezing water drops and frozen anomaly effects are fixed.
  • Master difficulty: you can no longer receive a stash location for a stash you already looted.
  • Localization: typos in the Ukrainian localization are fixed.

Other Updates

  • DLC and add-ons are now applied on the first launch on SteamOS, and GeForce NOW users can launch DLC.
  • Gamepad usage on portable consoles and the Steam machine is fixed.
  • The visual effects of the Flare light anomaly changed, and the render distance of anomalies now follows the Streaming distance setting.
  • Descriptions of some graphical and video settings were adjusted.

Mods Warning

The developers warn that a new update can shift the Zone's structure, so mods may not hold up. If you see performance or stability problems after The Zone Lookout, they recommend disabling your mods. Our guide on how to install mods is a good place to start when you put them back. For other issues, visit the support center at support.stalker2.com.

And that covers the changes in The Zone Lookout. You can read the official patch notes on the Steam announcement. The team says the update was planned from feedback on social media, forums and reviews. While you head back into the Zone, check our guide on how to get more ammo.
