Sonic and Sonic 2 were a huge success and rightfully claimed their title as one of the best adaptations of a classic game yet. We have known for a while now that a third Sonic movie was on its way as Paramount has given us plenty of teasers and hits in the last months. However, it wasn't until CinemaCon 2024, that the first visuals of the new movie were shown to the public. With the new trailer, we finally got to see what we can expect from the new sequel. Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Release Date

The official release date for the movie was confirmed at the end of last year. The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account posted the following announcement, revealing the date to be December 20, 2024. It seems like the third Sonic movie will be a Christmas favorite this year.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Trailer and Plot

The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog debuted exclusively at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Although it is not yet available online, reports from those who attended the event have provided insights into the upcoming plot and cast of the movie.

The trailer begins with a surprising transformation of Dr. Robotnik. Jim Carrey reprises his role as Eggman, appearing with longer hair and a significant weight gain. He starts by lamenting, "Ultimate power in the palm of my hands, and now I sit here binging on carbohydrates," referring to his weight gain. The scene shifts when Agent Stone informs him, "Doctor, they found him." While initially unknown, Eggman quickly realizes the significance and regains his motivation to act.

Later in the trailer, the unknown character is revealed to be everyone's favorite antagonist - Shadow, who is shown fighting Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

Regarding the plot, little is known for now, but speculation suggests a possible alliance between Sonic and Robotnik against Shadow. Fans also anticipate that Sonic 3 will delve into Shadow's backstory, especially with the confirmation of Maria Robotnik's appearance in the movie.

Additionally, reports from CinemaCon attendees mention a shot of Shadow on his motorbike, hinting at the inclusion of more elements from various Sonic games in the movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Cast

We have the previous cast returning to the set, including Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Lee Majdoub, James Marsden, Colleen O’Shaughnessy, Tom Butler, and Tika Sumpter. The biggest surprise for this movie was Jim Carrey's return, as he had previously claimed to be retiring from his acting career after his role in Sonic 2. Fortunately, he chose to come back for his iconic role as Dr. Robotnik.

In addition to the returning cast, there are a few new faces joining the third Sonic movie. Out of all the announced actors, only Alyla Browne's character, Maria Robotnik, has been revealed. The rest are:
