The Skull and Bones maintenance on Monday, October 19, brings one of the biggest changes to naval combat in a while: your weapons no longer need ammunition to fire. Ubisoft also stretched the current season by two weeks and added a new Abyssal Essence exchange at Blackwood's.

If you stocked up on cannonballs or paid for ammunition crate blueprints, you'll want to know what you get back. We will go over every change in this update, from the ammunition removal and refund rates to the long list of fixes. For gear advice that still applies, our Skull and Bones best ship loadout guide is a good companion.

Maintenance Schedule

The maintenance was scheduled for Monday, October 19, and was expected to take about two hours. Here are the start times Ubisoft listed:

  • 8 AM CEST on October 19
  • 5 PM AEDT on October 19
  • 11 PM PT on October 18

Ammunition Removal and Infinite Ammo

Weapons no longer require ammunition to be stocked in your ship cargo or warehouse to fire. In practice, that means every weapon now has infinite ammo, and the tooltips no longer show an ammo type for those weapons.

All existing ammunition inventory and ammunition crate blueprints were removed from player accounts and fully reimbursed. If you're still deciding what to run, see our picks for the best ship weapons and cannons.

Ammunition Refund Rates

Every remaining unit of ammunition in your inventory was converted to Silver at these rates, per unit:

Ammunition type Refund rate
Mortar Bomb 5 Silver
Buoy Shells 5 Silver
Giant Ballista Bolt 3 Silver
Rockets 1 Silver
Sea Fire Oil 1 Silver
Bombard Bomb 1 Silver
Cannonball 1 Silver
Torpedo 1 Silver

Crate Blueprint Refunds

Owned ammunition crate blueprints were removed and reimbursed at their full store purchase values, in Silver or Pieces of Eight (Po8).

Blueprint category Standard crate Deluxe I crate Deluxe II crate
Mortar Bomb 1,730 Silver 15,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Rocket 2,020 Silver 15,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Buoy Shells 1,730 Silver 15,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Giant Ballista Bolt 960 Silver 15,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Sea Fire Oil 830 Silver 15,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Bombard Bomb 60 Silver 11,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Cannonball 45 Silver 11,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight
Torpedo 220 Silver 12,000 Silver 200 Pieces of Eight

How to Claim Your Refund

Refunds arrive in your in-game mailbox, and the mail has no expiration date, so you can claim it whenever you're ready. If accepting the reimbursement would push you over your maximum currency capacity for Silver or Pieces of Eight, clear enough space before you claim the attached total.

Season Extension and Blackwood's Exchange

Year 3 Season 2 (Y3S2) is extended by two weeks while the team prepares for upcoming changes next season. More details on what's coming will follow closer to the season's launch, and the Seasonal Calendar will be updated with the latest events by October 20, 2026 at 06:00 UTC.

There's also a new addition at Blackwood's: you can now exchange for Abyssal Essence using Gildmarks.

  • Where: the Weekly Section of the Buy and Sell menu at Blackwood's
  • Rate: 100 Abyssal Essence for 1,000 Gildmarks
  • Weekly limit: 15 exchanges, for a total of 1,500 Abyssal Essence per Den

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Ubisoft's notes mark several fixes as player reported. Here is what changed, grouped by area.

Audio

  • Fixed an issue where multiple shanties failed to trigger during standard navigation.
  • Fixed an issue where Title Screen and Store background music and UI audio were missing.

Combat

  • Fixed an issue where the Abyssal Stigma status effect could not be removed by using a Restoration Kit.
  • Updated the "Perforate" Mythic Mod description to clarify that projectiles can pierce the same enemy ship multiple times, dealing reduced damage with each pierce.
  • Fixed an issue where the Blowback perk dealt percentage-based damage instead of flat damage.
  • Fixed an issue where Kraken Eye weakpoints remained highlighted during Phases 1 and 2 of the Kraken event.
  • Fixed an issue where Iron Thunder remained charged up even after Elite ships fired out ballistas during Heralds of the Abyss.
  • Fixed an issue where certain sea monsters could be defeated in a single hit by targeting their weakpoints.

Contracts

  • Fixed unclear objective text on how to deliver items to the Buoy during the "Domain: Philippe La Peste" seasonal contract.
  • Fixed an issue in Bloodsoaked Silver where traitors remained invincible, preventing contract completion.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Abyssal Essence to be rewarded for completing Easy difficulty Job Board Contracts.

Stability, Faction War and Ship Loadout

  • Fixed an issue on GeForce NOW where downloading a micro-patch prevented the game from launching.
  • Fixed an issue causing multiple errors and failed game joins for players still on the older build. Those players now get booted out to the Title Screen so they can update.
  • Fixed an issue where players could not rejoin Sea Monster activities after network disconnections near the end of the event.
  • Fixed inconsistent War Asset drops from War Convoy ships when their routes crossed non-contested territories.
  • Fixed an issue where weapon damage values did not increase when using certain weapons under the Adaptive Arsenal seasonal bonus.
  • Fixed unusual stacking buffs on healing over time for Reachwarden Repair Long Guns.
  • Various client and server crash fixes.

Graphics, Store, UI and Localization

  • Fixed flags failing to dither on the Junk Ship when Rockets or Springloaders were equipped.
  • Fixed the Booming Fortune Firework animation being cut off on the player screen.
  • Fixed the missing "Voucher Available" label in the Pause Menu for Store Voucher owners.
  • Fixed the missing Emissive label for the Abysslit Eye Color under the Dreadtide bundle.
  • Fixed an incorrect reset timer on the Seasonal Infamy Leaderboard.
  • Fixed the event HUD staying stuck on the final stage after completing Heralds of the Abyss.
  • Fixed a non-functional scrollbar in the Legendary Kingpin Boost information panel.
  • Fixed a localization issue where the "Perforate" Mythic Ascension Mod used the same Korean term as the "Pierce" damage type.

Issues Still Under Investigation

Ubisoft listed the top community feedback it is looking at: frustration with the limited new content, storage space filling up too fast, dislike of the Seasonal Mastery Reset because of the grind, and a balance pass on Kraken difficulty and scaling.

The top bugs under investigation are:

  • Unbound Reaper goes invisible.
  • Reachwarden's Touch of Argus stacks do not consume correctly after reaching maximum on Corvette.
  • Physician ledger doesn't apply damage properly with weapons that have soul mending.
  • Events play incorrect music, or no music at all.
  • Missing cosmetic rewards after completing Freeman's Investigations (Grave News, Crown of Ukuta, etc).

The list isn't exhaustive. If you hit a problem, you can report it through the official Bug Reporter on the Ubisoft website.

And that covers all of the changes in the October 19 maintenance. You can read the full notes in the developer post on Steam. With the refund Silver in your pocket, our guide to farming Silver and the rundown on unlocking new ship weapons are good next stops.
