It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten any official updates about the future of the BioShock franchise - but that might be about to change. New reports suggest that publisher 2K is gearing up to make a major announcement related to BioShock, and it could happen before summer 2025 ends.
2K Reportedly Prepping Big BioShock News
According to a report from MP1st outlet, 2K is preparing something big for BioShock fans. While the exact nature of the announcement is still under wraps, sources say it could involve a brand-new game in the series - or even something connected to the upcoming BioShock movie that’s in development at Netflix.
There’s also talk that this announcement might not be about BioShock 4 at all. Instead, it could involve a remake or proper remaster of the original 2007 BioShock game. If true, this would mark a return to the iconic underwater city of Rapture - a setting that defined the series’ dark, immersive style.
Is Rapture Making a Comeback?
One of the more exciting parts of the rumor is that Rapture may play a key role in whatever is announced. The leaked info reportedly includes strong references to the original game, which has led many to believe a remake could be on the table. Fans may remember that a BioShock Collection was released in 2016, but it featured only minor visual upgrades. A full remake would be a big step up, especially for newer platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
What About BioShock 4?
While BioShock 4 has been mentioned in past reports, earlier rumors suggest it might be set in a totally new location—something far from Rapture. That makes this new info even more intriguing. Could 2K be planning both a new sequel and a remake? Or is this announcement just one piece of a larger BioShock revival?
Final Thoughts
At this point, everything is still speculation. But if the rumors are true, fans of BioShock might not have to wait much longer for a major reveal. Whether it’s a sequel, a remake, or something related to the Netflix adaptation, the return of BioShock would be huge news for the gaming world.
However, to be honest, there’s a chance this announcement won’t even be about a game - which would be pretty disappointing for me. Last I heard, the next BioShock title was stuck in development limbo.
At this point, it could end up being one of three things: BioShock 4, the BioShock Netflix film, or maybe even a full remake of the original game.
Stay tuned - we’ll keep you updated as soon as any official details drop.
